Teaching

Research

Doctoral thesis: Development of a vehicle dynamics controller for obstacle avoidance.

Significant research projects undertaken within the Centre for Systems and Control and Department of Mechanical Engineering:

2007-2009: GU RPSP

Development of a whole-plant simulation and controller for a nuclear processing plant.

2007-2009: SG-OA2

Development of measuring and estimation software for analysing events in nuclear processing plants.

2004-2007: CEmACS

The CEmACS (Complex Embedded Automotive Control Systems) project was part of the European Union's Sixth Framework programme. Under the auspices of this project, I developed an emergency lateral collision avoidance controller for a passenger vehicle.

2003-2004: ESCC

The ESCC (Electronic System Controlled Chassis) project was an investigation into the operation of anti-lock braking systems and development of brake controllers, undertaken in partnership with a German automotive company.

Industry

Before coming to Glasgow, I worked in the aerospace industry (British Aerospace and Lockheed Martin (Aeronautics)) after graduating from Salford University with B.Eng(Hons) Aeronautical Engineering in 1996.

Software

Gawthrop and Bevan, MTT Manual v5.0

I have built GNU/Linux .deb and .rpm packages for the bond graph modelling software MTT (Model Transformation Tools) which are available for download from Sourceforge.

Stable packages and snapshots of the latest version for testing are available in the mtt and mtt-snapshot packages respectively.

Debian users wishing to 'apt-get' packages directly from the University of Glasgow should follow the instructions at www.mech.gla.ac.uk/~gbevan/mtt.
