Introduction to the Club

JMCS Glasgow Section

The Junior Mountaineering Club of Scotland consists of five Sections, four in Scotland, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lochaber, and Perth), and the London Section which has members throughout England.

Each of the Sections runs its own affairs and has a separate meets schedule and committee.

The Glasgow Section of the JMCS is an active Mountaineering club based in Glasgow. The club holds meets approximately fortnightly throughout the year, with larger gaps in the summer and over the Christmas period. Additionally a pub night is held every fortnight on Thursdays. (Please phone before attending as it is a busy pub and sometimes no pub meet takes place). We also hold informal meets at the climbing wall in Ibrox.

The Glasgow Section of the JMCS owns the Coruisk Memorial Hut on Skye which is available for use by MCofS and BMC affiliated clubs.

Meets are generally to destinations within Scotland, as far North as Torridon for short weekends, although generally nearer, and to the islands or far North at long weekends. Activities of Club members include rock climbing, ice climbing, (both at all grades), summer and winter hill walking, ski mountaineering, downhill skiing, and road and mountain cycling. Club members are also active abroad during both summer and winter seasons.

A club newsletter is produced and contains a number of meet reports, a meets list, and other information. An edited version of some recent newsletters are available online, as are some past meet reports.

Further information on membership can be obtained from the current website
