Mechanical Engineering ( European Curriculum)
This degree combines study of Mechanical Engineering with advanced study of a European Language. An integral feature is a one year period of accredited study at a continental European University. The first two years of the degree, taken in Glasgow, are common with Mechanical Engineering, with the provision of additional advanced language training. The third year of the BEng, or the third or fourth year of the MEng, are taken at one of many approved European Universities. Credit for the courses studied abroad is achieved through ECTS (European Credit Transfer Scheme). These studies form an integral part of the curriculum and are undertaken under the same regulations that apply to the other degrees in Mechanical Engineering. The year spent abroad will give you an opportunity to study a language in depth and gain first hand experience of living and working in a European country. You will return to Glasgow to complete your degree, developing an advanced and comprehensive knowledge of a number of different disciplines in Mechanical Engineering. The aim is the formation of graduate mechanical engineers who can, even in their first professional employment, contribute to the European business of multinational and European national companies.
If you do not have the necessary entry qualifications for this degree (language at Higher or A-level) you may take additional language training in earlier years and transfer to this curriculum from the other degrees in Mechanical Engineering.
For Curriculum - See Mechanical Engineering. Note that Language (at an advanced level) becomes a core subject. Year 3, or year 3 or 4 of the MEng, is spent in a European University.
