Getting to Glasgow

Glasgow has two airports - Glasgow International and Glasgow Prestwick.

Glasgow International on the south west edge of Glasgow and the 747 bus goes from the airport to the centre of Glasgow via Kelvingrove park every half hour. Additional buses go into the centre of Glasgow where changes can be made to come out to the University of Glasgow. A taxi from Glasgow Airport to the university costs approximately £18. Glasgow Prestwick airport is about 30 miles from the centre of Glasgow served by trains and buses for connection to the centre of Glasgow. The airport website is at http://www.gpia.co.uk/ and again airlines and destinations are available from http://www.gpia.co.uk/HolidayFlights/default.asp

Glasgow has two main railway stations, Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen’s Street with good connections throughout the UK. The National Rail enquires centre is at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/. Those people coming from London should note that in addition to the day trains there is a sleeper service leaving Euston about 23.40 and arriving in Glasgow about 7.15. Sleepers can be booked via ScotRail at http://www.scotrail.co.uk/caledoniansleeper/index.html

Again there are long distance buses serving the city of Glasgow.

Within Glasgow
Glasgow has the third oldest subway system in the world dating back to 1896, however, it has been extensively updated since then. The nearest stops to Glasgow University are Hillhead and Kelvinbridge with the UKSB conference venue being closer to Kelvinbridge station. Queen’s Street main line station is served by Buchanan street staion and Glasgow Central by St Enoch http://www.spt.co.uk/subway/

The rest of Glasgow is covered by train and bus.


Travel within Glasgow is covered by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) http://www.spt.co.uk/ which gives advice on journeys within the Glasgow area. In addition there are buses and taxis serving the whole of the city.
