General Information UKSB Conference is being held in Scotland for the first time. The organising committee are drawn from both the University of Glasgow and Strathclyde University. The conference aims to bring together research students from throughout the UK to allow them to develop their presentation skills, discuss their research work and develop interactions with other young biomaterials scientists from the UK. Glasgow is on the west coast of Scotland and is the home to four universities, University of Glasgow, Strathclyde University, Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of the West of Scotland. In the 19th Century it was a major heavy engineering centre and known as the “Second City of the Empire”. In parallel with the industrial development the artistic and cultural life of the city developed with the museums. In the second half of the 20th Century the heavy industrial activity declined, but the cultural activity has developed and now the major museums include the Kelvingrove Museum and the Burrell Collection, with the city being European City of Culture in 1990. Glasgow is the home for both Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet. The shopping facilities in the city are excellent, but Loch Lomond is only 45minutes away by train.
In July the average temperature ranges from 11 to 18˚C with 49.5 mm of rain. |
