Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Web Site.

Mechanical Engineering is active in both research and teaching. It received a Grade 5 in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise and has a number of leading research groups and taught courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Its undergraduate courses provide the educational base for those who seek to become Chartered Mechanical Engineers through a portfolio of degree programmes that lead to the degrees of MEng and BEng. These programmes are accredited in the UK by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and are recognised internationally. They are founded on the expertise of our staff and on close links with other departments, which include the Department of Aerospace Engineering and the Glasgow School of Art.

The Department pursues fundamental, applied and commercially sensitive research intended to advance the understanding of engineering, raise the competitiveness of UK national engineering businesses and to train research engineers to the highest national and international standards.
